Cremation Traditions at Military Funerals

When it comes to cremation traditions at military funerals, there are a number of events that may occur.

Remembering the loss of someone who has sacrificed his life so that we may still live in freedom is very sacred. Whether he died in service or out of service, his contributions will always be remembered. These services can often be very emotional for everyone involved. There are other sacrifices that the fallen soldier has made that will always be in our hearts, whether it is friends, family, dreams or any number of other things.

Military funerals are full of traditions that are proudly carried through at each and everyone. At these funerals, you will always find at least two members of armed forces in uniform attending. They will be present at the viewing and the service. Their presence is a silent reminder of the brotherhood, friendship and respect that the members of the armed forces share. It also shows that the sacrifices made are not just for us, but for their platoon. A speech may also be spoken by an officer of the armed forces if the fallen soldier was remembered well or killed in action.

A gun salute is also present at a military funeral. This may be done for officers or high ranking officials of the armed forces. A 3 shot volley may also be fired. This is to represent the signal of removing fallen bodies from the battlefield during battle. If the fallen soldier was in the navy, a cannon may be fired as a sign of trust and respect.

Music is another tradition that is seen at these military funerals. Whether it is someone playing a bugle, bagpipes or even a recording. ?Taps? is played as a final salute to the fallen soldier. The playing of this song will bring a very emotional feeling to many of the people attending the service.

Financial aid is another tradition for family members of the soldier that has fallen. If the soldier was killed in action, died in a V.A. Hospital or not dishonorably discharged, the family is eligible for burial allowance. Up to ,000 dollars will be issued towards expenses, if the soldier has fallen while in service. If the soldier was out of service when he left us then 0 dollars is awarded to funeral arrangements and 0 dollars to burial arrangements. The family is also entitled to a government marker or headstone, a flag and a Presidential memorial certificate.

Cremation traditions at military funerals are always emotional and held in high regard. Remembering the sacrifices made by the soldier and what they stood for is something that everyone takes very seriously and is one of our most sacred traditions of all.
