HOSPITAL DIET

What is Atkins Diet all about?
Basically, Atkins diet was developed by Dr. Robert Atkins in 1992. It allows dieters to consume as much protein and fats food, and stay away from the carbohydrates. This diet is thought to be a good bargain as dieters thought they do not mind giving up the carbohydrates for steak, sausages and bacon. When Atkins diet was first introduced, it lead a serious uproar in the medical community as they felt that a diet containing excessive fats and proteins is definitely not healthy and not the way to go.

Whether it works?
In several studies, it was suggested that Atkins diet works and the results were astonishing -people who follow on the Atkins diet lose twice as much as those on the low calorie diet. Another study show diet Atkins dieters showed a significant improvements in the blood cholesterol and decrease in triglycerides compare to those who low fat, low calorie diet.

Why it works?
Dr Atkins propose the 2 ideas that lead to why Atkins diet works. Firstly, he propose that our body would require more energy to burn the fats and proteins away hence in the process, using more calories in the end. Next, he proposes that one would pee away the calories when they stop eating carbohydrates and this process is known is ketosis.

Whether is that the truth?
However, studies have shown that these Dr Atkins's 2 hypotheses are questionable. There was a study on 2 identical twins on 2 different diet, one on Atkins diet, the other on traditional low fat diet. It was found out that the twin on the Atkins diet only lose a small amount of calories compared to the twin on the low fat diet. And the urine of both the twins show not much of significant results to prove anything. It was concluded that from this study, Dr Atkins hypotheses does not seem to be very true.

So what really work?
Many articles out in the web had concluded that the main reason why it can help one to lose weight is because a high protein diet would act as an appetite suppressant. And by following the Atkins diet, one who feel full easily after eating a meal with high protein and in the end, they eat lesser calories than usual. In addition, scientists have also found out that eating fatty food actually stimulate the appetite.

What is the adverse effect of having too much proteins?
Researchers at Brisham and Women's hospital have found out that a diet with too much proteins and low carbohydrates may cause reduce kidney functions. Atkins diet, being a high protein diet, would require the kidney to work harder to process the excessive proteins. Hence it may affect the kidney functions as a result.

Hence in conclusion, Atkins diet may be an effective diet towards weight loss, however, it may cause adverse effects to your kidney in the long term. The long term effects of Atkins diet is not known yet.

The Dukan Diet Vs The Atkins Diet

Both the Dukan diet and the Atkins diet stick with the same objectives. Above all is to help in shedding weight and second is to cut the ingestion of carbohydrates from food. One other leading similarity is the amount of phases which they share equally. Both of them offer 4 phases respectively. However, to satisfy the same objective, they effect two distinct routes. Where the Dukan diet stresses the usage of high proteins to minimize carbohydrates, the Atkins diet does not. It stresses on the consumption of carbohydrates which it would like to first cut and then halt off in the dieter's diet.

Phase 1:
Where phase one in the Dukan diet is referred to as the "attack phase", the Atkins diet refers to it as the "induction phase". Although the objective of the first phase is comparable (to trim down body weight considerably), they go forward with unique methods. Dukan emphasizes perfect protein food in this first phase, cutting down most of the carbs and fat. Atkins focuses on cutting down the consumption of the carbs only, and then works on switching the body from burning mostly carbohydrates (in the form of glucose) to burning generally fat (including your body fat) for energy. Whilst there is no intake of carbs in the Dukan diet at all, Atkins diet allows for only 20 grams daily (including vegetables) while the first phase.

Phase 2:
Though objectives remain the same, there is a big incompatibility in the paths in phase 2. The "Cruise phase" of the Dukan diet is about how to attain the target weight and for the first-time allows the dieter to eat vegetables. The Atkins diet ensures that a small increase of 5gm to 10gm (25 to 30 grams a day) in the intake of carbohydrates occurs in the first week of the phase "Ongoing Weight Loss" (Owl) until the weight stops to decrease so the dieter can positively decide when the maintenance period should start. Then the dieter is advised to subtract five grams of carbohydrates from their daily consumption so that they move on with sustained, moderate weight-loss.

Phase 3:
The diets use a distinct coming at phase 3, which is the "Consolidation phase" for the Dukan diet and "Pre-maintenance" for the Atkins diet. For the Dukan diet, this is the start of the maintenance period of the dieter's "true weight" that was attained in phase 2. Where as at this phase the Atkins diet performs the preparations required by the Pre- maintenance period. The carbohydrate intake is reduced again to achieve the goal weight.

Phase 4:
In this last phase, "Stabilization" for Dukan and "Lifetime Maintenance" for Atkins, it's about showing everybody around you that "Yes! I can stick to it!" At this stage both of the weight loss programs will make you climb onto exactly the same platform. You will have to live the rest of your life in phase 4 of your respective diets, well done!

Eating is part of life and should be neither regimented nor sacrificed. The Dukan diet promises those on a diet to drop weight by eating as much as they desire with one hundred suitable foods. The Atkins diet has been around for 40 years and has been supported with over sixty studies while this time period. In summary, both diets are designed to help one slim down. However, in losing weight the diets want the dieter to give up some foods, whichever one you consider.

The Atkins Diet Rules Explained

Following the Atkins Diet rules helped me to lose 120 pounds in about eighteen months. While I am thrilled with the results, I found that when I first started the hardest part was sticking with rules until I got a real feel for what I could and couldn't do as I went straight through the four phases.

diet pills for women

It sounds funny, but the part of the diet that I unmistakably found easiest was also the strictest - the Atkins Diet Induction rules. I was on this phase for about two weeks, and it unmistakably kicked off my weight loss. The intuit I found it so easy was because it was so strict. There was very minuscule room for "fudging" the diet because the guidelines were so specific.

DIET

Induction Rules

The Induction rules are very straightforward: Lots of protein and a salutary number of fats. No refined sugar or wheat products. Lots of water and liquids that don't consist of sugar or sweeteners (except some Splenda).

Eat till Satisfied, but Not Stuffed

I ate three meals a day without fail - it was leading to do this so that my body adjusted to burning off the fat and not going into a "fasting" mode when I went too long without eating. I also stuck with one of the cardinal rules of the Atkins program - I ate until I felt full and satisfied, but not stuffed. I found that over time that I had this feeling of pleasure sooner rather than later, so I learned to unmistakably listen to my body.

Stick to the Allowed Foods on the List

I never ate margarine or hydrogenated oils or trans fats. Even a minuscule bit of these can stall an entire day's worth of eating properly according to the rules. Dairy products such as milk and yogurt were out, as was fruit and fruit juice. Grains were a big no-no, and I paid attentiveness to these rules.

Eat the proper Amounts

I also paid attentiveness to amounts - for instance, only three or four ounces of cheese and no more. It can be tempting to eat a lot of the things you are allowed, but you need to keep the quantities in balance. If you're still hungry and have already eaten your reduction of cheese, for instance, eat some meat or add more salad vegetables to your diet. This is easy to do because Dr. Atkins' Induction diet rules call for up to three whole cups of salad greens every day!

Surprisingly, since I knew exactly what was permitted, it was easy for me to stick to the Atkins diet menu. I just kept a list of proper foods handy (a copy of the rules on my refrigerator and other in my wallet for eating out) at all times. I knew this was the literal, quantum of the diet rules and so I stayed within the boundaries all the time, together with drinking eight glasses of water every day.

Phases Ii, Iii and Iv

The other phases (Weight Loss, Pre-Maintenance and Maintenance) were a bit trickier. The Atkins Diet Rules are always pretty clear, but as you move from phase to phase you have to listen more to your body and adjust amounts and types of food accordingly. One of the things that took me a bit of time was studying just how many carbohydrates I could eat in a day without stalling my weight loss.

The Diet is Not Hard to Follow

Following Dr. Atkins' rules helped me to gauge what "low carb" meant for my single metabolism, but it took some fiddling around with my diet for a few days. The nice part of it was that, with new foods allowed and more leeway, I had a lot of fun studying and adjusting. It unmistakably taught me how much of a pleasure the Atkins diet can be because I could eat so many things.

The most leading part of the Atkins diet rules is insight carbohydrates and how much of them you can or can't eat. Fortunately, the book, "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution," clearly outlined all things for me. It contained specific lists of foods that I could eat and even broke it down into a "ladder" so that I knew which carbs were best and which were only borderline.

For instance, according to the Atkins diet, seeds and nuts are lower carb than whole grains or starchy vegetables. The Atkins diet works for me because all things is broken down so clearly and you know exactly how to keep track of your carbs.

If you're trying to lose weight, I encourage you to take a good look at Atkins. The Atkins diet rules make it easy because you start with a literal, set of rules that will get your weight loss started - a real motivator! After you've started, the rules become less literal, so that you can stick with it for a long time without feeling deprived. And finally, Dr. Atkins has written so much about the program that you can find an answer to every food quiz, you could maybe have, development it easy to follow the rules!
