Review of the Cabbage Soup Diet Plan

The Cabbage Soup diet is another fad weight loss diet that is centered around eating cabbage soup. The origins of the soup are uncertain, but it is believed to go back as far as World War I. During that time, besides cabbage the American soldiers had few options for vegetables. Also eating it offered them protection against scurvy, a disease deficiency caused by inadequate vitamin C in their diet.

Over the years the diet has been know by many different names: TWA Stewardess Diet, Model's Diet, Dolly Parton Diet, Military Cabbage Soup Diet, Sacred Heart Hospital Diet, and the Skinny Diet to name a few.

SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DIET

The reason for its popularity is that many of the diet proponents claim that you can lose 10 or more pounds in a week. Whether this is true or not, no studies have been performed that demonstrates that cabbage possesses any properties that can help to speed up the fat burning process like grapefruit.

Description of the Cabbage Soup Diet

The diet consist mainly of a recipe for the soup. Besides the cabbage, the ingredients of the recipes may also include other vegetables such as tomatoes, celery, green peppers, and onions.

Early versions of the soup would cook for an hour. However for newer versions of the recipe, the cooking time is 10 to 15 minutes. The shorter cooking time helps to preserve the nutrients found in the cabbage.

Also the dieters are expected to follow specific menus for each day. Many of the menus consist of some fruits, beans, and potatoes. On most of the days no meat is included in the diet. Also, depending on the version of the diet that you are following, cabbage soup is to be eaten once per day or in some case in an unlimited amount, or whenever you feel hungry.

Benefits

The limited benefits of the diet are that cabbage is a healthy vegetable and that it is in expensive to make and store. Given that 3 1/2 ounces of the vegetable only has 20 calories, you can eat a lot and not have to worry about ingesting an excessive amount of calories.

Precautions and Risks

There are many concerns that you should keep in mind about the diet. Since the diet is nutritionally restrictive, the primary precaution that you have to take is not to follow it longer than seven days. And again because of its restrictive nature, if you have health problems, you would be wise to consult a health professional before you start.

And since many of the pounds that you will lose will be water weight, you may also get in the habit of losing and then putting the weight back on-- the dreaded yo-yo dieting syndrome.

Some other effects that you should be aware of is the increase in flatulence, which can be embarrassing. Also, many of the recipes include lots of salt. So if you are trying to restrict your sodium intake, you need to be conscious of this fact.

Assessment of the Cabbage Soup Diet

As with most diets, because of its calorie restriction you will lose weight. For this same reason, following it over an extended period will probably be hard, not to mention unhealthy.

Hearing that you can lose 10 pounds are more on this diet does make it tempting to try, but over the long haul, it will not be worth it. This is mainly due to the nature in which you lost the weight. Even if it were healthy, it is very doubtful that you could follow this diet the rest of your life. Good dieting is not just about weight loss or burning fat, but also about sustaining your success and living healthy.

There are many diets out there that are healthier and can help you sustain weight loss permanently without compromising your health. Do yourself a favor and avoid the temptation of using this diet as the centerpiece of your weight loss plan. The only thing that you should take from it is the recipes for cabbage soup.

Losing Weight Fast - Cabbage Diet?

Many people tend to look to the famous cabbage diet as fast weight loss strategy but does it actually work? Yes.

Yes, it does work, but only temporarily. Before I dive in further, lets just give you more information about the losing weight fast method, the cabbage diet. The cabbage diet is a diet where you need only have a few days to lose that few extra pound to attend your cousin's wedding, or to get into that beautiful dress for your prom.

HOSPITAL DIET

This losing weight fast diet includes having you to drink only cabbage soup for a few days. By doing so, you would lose the water retention in your body, resulting in you losing a few pounds needed for that emergency event. So all you can take for that few days would be cabbage soup.

Again, this is only a losing weight fast method that you can use to help you lose that few extra pounds fast. It is bad for your health in the long run!

This losing weight fast method definitely works but there are some side effects.

As you are not taking all the required nutrients that your body need, you might feel weak or nausea. Also, as it is only losing the water in your body, you would regain your weight the moment you start eating normally. If you think that you can simply continue on this diet, it's a waste of time. This is because no actual fats is lost and you are just slowing starving your body of the nutrients it need. This might lead to serious problems and land you in hospital with real damage to your body.

So, in that few days when you're taking this diet to ensure that you are losing weight fast, there are some suggestions for you to go help you survive the cabbage diet.

First and forth most, fruits. They contain fibers that will give you a filled feeling rather than going around all day with your stomach growling away. Also, fruits has natural sugar in them that would give you some energy that the cabbage soup lacks. Try not to eat fruits like watermelon that has high water content. After all, you're trying to lose the water retention in your body!

Next, get some carbohydrates and protein. Sandwich, just a simple one with some tomatoes and one slice of ham in it would make you feel better. It would not affect your weight much and would give you some much needed energy to survive your cabbage diet.

You can try losing weight fast in this method, but it will not help you in any actual weight loss. There are other methods that will help you in losing weight fast and making sure that you keep the fats of permanently!

How Fast Do You Regain Weight After Stopping the Cabbage Soup Diet?

While starvation diets such as "The Cabbage Soup Diet" are very popular because people look upon them as "quick fixes" the truth is that they are anything but a "fix." In fact, they are actually a part of the problem.

Any weight that is lost on such a starvation diet will be gained back in a matter of weeks (if not days) after the diet is stopped (and of course a starvation diet can only be continued for a short time, usually for just a few days or a week at most.)

SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DIET

This means that there is really no point in starting The Cabbage Soup Diet in the first place. It's a waste of time and energy. You will likely not only be back where you started in a few weeks time, you will most likely have gained more weight back than you started with! Indeed, most people end up fatter than they started when they try a diet of this kind.

Instead you should start a diet that's based on sound dieting principles. That doesn't mean you can't lose weight fast. You can. But you might as well do it in a way where you'll actually keep the weight off instead of just gaining it back.

How do you do that? By choosing a diet that includes a metabolism boosting regular "day off" from dieting. How does that work? The regular "calorie spike" forces your metabolism into high gear which makes you burn fat much faster. Most diets (in particular starvation diets) make your metabolism slow down so slow that it's harder to lose weight and most relevant to this article, extremely easy to gain weight.

Sacred Heart Soup Recipe - Need the Recipe For the Sacred Heart Cabbage Soup?

Looking to start the Sacred Heart diet? It's been a pretty popular one week diet plan for a while now, and can be helpful for people looking to lose weight quickly. For some pros and cons of the diet, check the link at the bottom. The sacred heart soup diet really isn't the best way to lose weight if you want to keep it off, but it's got some good points to it.

Traditional sacred heart soup recipe:

SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DIET

* 6 - Green onions; chopped
* 2 - Diced Bell peppers
* 2 - Cans tomatoes, diced or whole, including the juice

* 2 - Finely chopped Garlic cloves
* 1/2 Head cabbage chopped in bite size pieces
* 2 - Cubes beef or chicken bouillon that is dissolved in hot water
* 2 - Squash, diced into bite size pieces
* 1 - Zucchini, diced
* 2 - Cups each of sliced carrots, celery and mushrooms
* 2 - Tablespoons of fresh chopped parsley

Cooking directions:

You should notice an increase in your energy levels within a few days as you lose weight. Don't live on it though since it doesn't have all the things your body needs to function long term... but it makes a pretty good filler meal. Remember if you're going to do the Sacred Heart Soup Diet, you need to follow the rest of the eating plan too.

Here is another sacred heart soup recipe, one that is a little lighter on the ingredients. Same cooking ingredients as above.

Leave the soda alone, especially diet soda (it makes food cravings a lot worse). Water, tea, or coffee work fine as long as you don't add too many sweeteners and cream.

* Day 1 - Any fruit you would like to eat except bananas.
* Day 2 - All the fresh vegetables you want, in moderation of course. :)
* Day 3 - Consume as much soup as you wish. Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables.
* Day 4 - No more than six bananas. You may also have some skim milk
* Day 5 - 8 to 12 ounces of lean beef.
* Day 6 - More beef or chicken along with any vegetables you like
* Day 7 - Consume as much unsweetened fruit juices, brown rice and fresh vegetables as you wish.

Cabbage Soup Diet - Is it Just a Fad?

"Sacred Heart Hospital diet" or the "Mayo Clinic diet", these are two most common names of the Cabbage Soup diet. This works by consuming a soup made of cabbage during the 7-day time frame. If you plan to lose weight in an instant, this diet is right for you. This diet will let you lose weight in the form of water. But after a while, when you're out of the program, you'll easily add up on your weight again.

While you're in the program, you can take as much cabbage soup as you wish accompanied by lots of water. It is also best to add some fruits and more vegetables to your meals. For diet starters, cabbage soup diet is a best pilot program because it works fast and is proven to be very healthy.

SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DIET

The cabbage soup diet is programmed for strictly 7 days, not shortened nor extended. It is also important to follow the diet instructions. It is required that you drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day and observe the diet meal menu without changing it. During the 7 days within the program, some body needs like protein, calcium and fatty acids may not be present.

With the tasteless flavor of the cabbage soup, it earned several different reviews from critics. Also, while in the diet, one may feel dizziness and headaches because of the lack of protein of the diet. Many quit this program because they could not stand the tasteless flavor of the soup and side effects occur to be inconvenient and unpleasant.

For those who want to have fast weight loss results, cabbage soup diet is right for you. Despite of its richness in fiber and low fat, it still fails to meet the body needs in nutritional value. The main thought of this diet is to take out fat from the body with the help of the fiber found in cabbage.

With all the diet fads out there, a balanced and healthy life style accompanied by regular exercise is still the best to achieve a better you.

7 Day Diet Plan - The Cabbage Soup Diet

If you want to lose weight with a 7 day diet plan then you can chose the cabbage soup diet. Like the name of the diet suggests, the diet is over 7 days and is only a temporary weight program and should be terminated after 7 days. This particular diet is ideal for rapid weight loss for special events like weddings, vacations etc.

With the cabbage soup diet, you may eat/drink as much cabbage soup, fruit and drink as much caffeine and tea as you wish but little else. Other foods types are permitted but are minimal or very restricted. The reason that this diet works is because it is low in calories and not suppose to be a substitute for a lifetime of good nutrition. This diet program is not nutritionally sound, and I urge you to stop after seven days. The cabbage soup diet is also called the 'Sacred Heart Diet' or the 'Mayo Clinic Diet'. However it has no association with any Sacred Heart Hospital or the Mayo Clinic. The amount of what you lose on this diet is important muscle tissue. If you have not been exercising...you will gain the weight back as fat, which is not muscle and therefore you will become fatter.

HOSPITAL DIET

What is eaten during the 7 day diet plan?

Day 1- Drink as much soup as you want, eat only fruit and drink black coffee, cranberry juice, unsweetened tea, and water. Day 2- Drink as much soup as you want, eat only raw or cooked vegetables but no fruit allowed. Day 3 - Drink as much soup as you want and a combination of the first 2 days of eating fruits and vegetables. Day 4- Drink as much soup as you want, eat up to 8 bananas and drink skim milk. Day 5- Drink soup at least once, eat 6 fresh tomatoes, 10oz to 20oz of beef, chicken or fish, and drink 6 to 8 glasses of water. Day 6 - Drink soup at least once, eat 2 to 3 beef steaks with fresh salad or vegetables. Day 7 - Drink soup at least once, eat vegetables and brown rice, and drink unsweetened fruit juice.

During this 7 day diet some people will experience being light headed, dizziness and lower ability to concentrate. The soup can taste bland to some people but a little seasoning can be added to improve the flavor. Because this diet is for rapid weight loss, when people go off the 7 day diet plan, the weight loss can be regained.

Cabbage Soup Diet

One of the ancient ways of losing weight that has been use for a long time is the use of the cabbage soup diet, this cabbage soup diet works in a principle where it limits the amount of calories that get in the body. This diet is known to be effective and has been used for people over ages because when people start using it they believe they will be able to attain their goal after a short time i.e. to lose weight fast.

Most people would advise you if you want to lose weight, this is the first way that you should do it, but is it really its worth to lose water while making the body to go in a starvation mode so that it can be bale to run the body processes.

SACRED HEART MEMORIAL HOSPITAL DIET

When the body goes in starvation mode, less and less of the calories is consumed and utilized in the running of the body processes, what happens is that the water, fat and ht e muscle tissue stored in the body are consumed during the metabolic process to ensure that the heart and the body are functioning well.

It has been found that once people are through with the diet, they regain their weight at a faster rate and this may be due to the body regaining back its metabolic rate and storing the excess fat and sugars that are being consumed. This is so because the soup does not contain any nutrients that can ensure the body stays healthy.

One bowl of the soup can only encourage retention of water because of the high water content but cannot be able to provide the necessary calories because of it slow nutrient level.

For people suffering from diabetes, they should not engage in this diet because it is likely to have adverse effects on them but for other people who are healthy, it may not have that adverse effect.

For people doing work that requires a lot of concentration, they are not allowed to use this diet because due to the low calories, they cannot be able to ensure they concentrate for a long time due to dizziness.

If you still prefer to use the cabbage soup diet as the way to your weight loss remember for you not to gain any other extra weight, try not to eat food rich in fat and sugar otherwise you will resume your normal weight and going on this diet again will not be healthy.
